Ashtanga Led with Tamara Ashley

Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series, also known as Yoga Chikitsa (yoga therapy), is a dynamic and structured sequence of postures designed over a century ago to promote physical healing, mental clarity, and spiritual growth. In its entirety, it moves most muscles and joints in most orientations; the experience is something of a self-massage, hence Yoga Chikitsa. 

This class is led by Tamara Ashley and offers practitioners the opportunity to explore the sequence with guided count of breath and movement and alignment cues. While it is a strong physical practice, it is an excellent place for all who have the curiosity to participate. Tamara Ashley has a trauma informed approach to leading this series, and will offer gentle adjustments where it is accepted. 

Please note, occasionally we will offer hybrid classes where people follow led instruction of the series to a certain point and then focus on the development of their practice individually, with the skilled and kind support and adjustment of Tamara and her assistants. 

Following the led series, with quiet minds and content sense of feeling vitality restored, participants will have the opportunity to practice pranayama, meditation and perhaps a discussion on this branch of yoga. 

Those who have a regular Mysore practice will notice that these sessions are often scheduled to coincide with the end of the intensive Mysore weeks that Ashtanga Yoga Cambridge offers & are encouraged to attend as their final practice of the week, a way to ground before having a rest. The led classes are included in the Intensive Packages.
