With nearly three decades of personal practice and over thirteen years of teaching experience, Sophie sees yoga as a steady thread running through the many seasons of life.
Over thousands of classes, she has seen how practice can support people in meeting both challenge and change with greater resilience, ease and self-awareness. Sophie teaches integral hatha yoga as a thoughtfully sequenced flow, informed by training in pregnancy yoga, trauma-informed approaches, Yin, Restorative and mindfulness-based practices. Longevity and sustainability are central to her teaching, with an emphasis on building a practice that supports students over time rather than pushing towards fixed shapes or outcomes.
Her teaching is warm, inclusive and gently playful. Sophie teaches responsively, adapting to who is in front of her, and aims to create a space with no pressure to perform — just an invitation to listen, explore, and practise with curiosity. Alongside her work as a yoga teacher, Sophie holds a PhD in Modern French History and works on historical research projects. Outside the studio, she enjoys dancing, travelling, spending time with friends, and maintaining her own yoga and meditation practice.
Sophie's Classes
Slow Flow Thursdays 18.15-19.15
Sophie’s classes are thoughtfully structured and carefully layered — often described as being built like a layered cake — with multiple options offered throughout so that students can listen to their bodies and choose what feels appropriate on any given day. Each class follows a gentle arc of intensity. We begin with grounding, breath awareness and settling, before gradually warming and mobilising the body. The practice then develops into a flowing sequence, with challenges offered for those who wish to explore them, always alongside accessible alternatives. Classes gradually return towards the ground, closing with deep rest and full-body relaxation.
This structure allows students to work at their own pace and make choices that suit how they are feeling on the day. The emphasis is on steady progress, clear options, and practising in a way that feels sustainable. Classes are suitable for a wide range of experience levels, and students are encouraged to adapt the practice as needed and to rest whenever appropriate.
